Dialectograms, a term coined by Illustrator + Writer Mitch Miller, depict a subject from the ground up. "It includes a dash of cartography, a pinch of architecture, and a fair bit of ethnography and you have the dialectogram, [a piece of] graphic art." 
Inspired by Miller's insanely beautiful and complex visualization of data, I played around with a few of my own examples.
